The mark of a great DJ lies not only in their ability to select great tunes, but in their ability to read the crowd and become in sync with the audience. Maz, an open format DJ from Boston, encapsulates both these qualities. What he loves the most is being able to connect with the crowd with every track he plays.

 

DJ Maz’s passion for music began at a young age. Born and raised in Boston, MA from Dominican parents, Maz’s cultural heritage played a large role in exposing him to music. His father's vast collection of records and recorded cassette tapes would always be used for family events and social gatherings. Inevitably, being around music ignited a passion within him, and it was not long before Maz’s musical journey took shape.

 

Maz started purchasing cassettes of his own and building up a collection of tracks. His first purchases included Dancehall/Reggae and Reggaeton. Two genres that would go on to shape and influence the direction of Maz’s musical career. At the age of 12, Maz was gifted a 3-deck radio boom box as a gift. This enabled him to record his first mix directly onto cassette. The feeling of playing his very first creation to his friends and family gave him the encouragement to keep at it. As technology evolved, so did he. His cassette collection became an entire music library, a compilation of all the latest hits on CDs, digital downloads and DJ mixtapes. It was around this time that Maz’s confidence as a selector began to shine through.

Naturally, Maz became the go-to DJ for all of his friends and family’s social events and gatherings. DJ Maz continued pursuing his passion and perfecting his craft. It was not long before he landed a spot at La Mega radio station, and DJ’d in some of the best clubs and private events in Massachusetts. He has since built a local and international reputation in the industry as a revered DJ and intends to continue impacting lives with every track he plays.
